ATM Tips
1.  Take a variety of payment options, such as credit cards, debit cards, traveler's  checks, and
currency to be prepared for all circumstances.

2.  Before leaving home contact your credit card companies and your bank to inform them of your
impending trip.  Don't end up stranded somewhere because your bank blocked your account
because they thought they detected fraudulent transactions on your account.

3.  Go to a bank if you have problems withdrawing cash from an ATM.

4.  Bring your bank's contact information just in case your ATM card doesn't work as expected.

5.  If your personal identification number or PIN number is longer than 4 digits, go to your bank and
have it changed.  Many ATMs abroad do not accept PINs longer than 4 digits.

6.  If your PIN is based on letters, translate the letters into numbers before leaving home.  Many
ATMs only have numbers on their keypads.

7.  Never trust or accept advice from anyone trying to assist you at an ATM.

8.  Always walk away before inserting your ATM card into the ATM, if you feel "crowded" or
unsafe.

9.  Never trust anyone with your ATM card or PIN.

10.  Change your PIN immediately if you suspect it to be known to unauthorised person/s.

11.  Never divulge any of your personal or bank account details to anyone not personally known to
you as trustworthy.

12.  If your card is eaten by an ATM in India you should immediately call the bank whose ATM
you are using.  (If you are using Bank of Punjab's ATM, call Bank of Punjab.)  The bank's phone
number is always prominently displayed in the ATM kiosk).  If you don't contact them immediately
they will destroy your card.

13.  Beware of merchants offering to convert your purchases into US dollars. These merchants
typically inflate the exchange rates by as much as five percent.

14.  Exchange rates and commission fees can be very expensive when converting foreign currency
back to US funds, so try to limit your cash withdrawals to just what you need. Use your remaining
currency for a last lunch or souvenir, or tuck it away for your next trip.
